The Linguistic Association of the Southwest (LASSO) is a regional linguistics
association in the United States whose purpose is the advancement of the
scientific study of language, particularly in the geographical region
covering the states of Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Louisiana,
New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. While LASSO is primarily interested in
languages of these southwestern states, it draws its membership from any
region in the world.
LASSO sponsors an annual meeting, the Southwest Journal of Linguistics, and a newsletter. ConferenceThe LASSO annual meeting is distributed across the LASSO area, from Louisiana to the Pacific Coast. The 35th conference was held in Laredo, TX and the 36th was in Denver, Colorado. The 37th annual conference will be held in Corvallis, Oregon at Oregon State University, October 17-19, 2008. The 38th annual conference is scheduled to be held at Brigham Young University in fall 2009. Proposals for future venues are welcome. Meetings may be held at a hotel or on a university campus, though the latter is preferred to make the meeting as accessible as possible to local faculty and students.
